It is very easy to know what template positions are available in a Joomla template(free or commercial) in Joomla. You need this information to know where to publish your modules / other content. For this tutorial, I’ll use my favorite Beez20 on a Joomla 2.5 Installation.

By default, template preview / template position preview is disabled. So all that needs to be done is to enable it.

joomla beez20-6-1

a) Login to your Joomla administrator backend interface.

b) Click EXTENSIONS >> TEMPLATE MANAGER

c) The Template Manager: Styles window opens: Click OPTIONS

joomla beez20-6-2

d) select ENABLED in PREVIEW MODULE POSITIONS

joomla beez20-6-3

e) click the SAVE AND CLOSE button, refresh your screen

joomla beez20-6-4

To preview the template, click PREVIEW.

Below sample screenshot is the upper part of the template. Sample positions are circled: positions: top, position-0, position-1…..

To publish or un-publish a module in a position requires just changing the status of the module in Module manager.
