The following is a continuation of my installation notes for Debian 6.0.6 Squeeze. Installation of applications is in no particular order. My objective is to reproduce tools I use in my windows partition on Debian.
13) HOW TO INSTALL YAHOO MESSENGER:
a) Install Google Chrome browser-stable from Synaptice Package manager
b) Yahoo messenger can easily be installed from Chrome web store. Search for yahoo messenger and follow the prompts to install. Add it to chrome using your gmail addr.
a) Install wine from synaptic package manager
b) download yahoo messenger installer (msgr11us.exe) from here:http://messenger.yahoo.com/download/
c) right click on (msgr11us.exe), and OPEN with WINE. Follow the remaining prompts
a) download an old yahoo messenger version and update later. Download a complete yahoo messenger build from here: http://www.oldapps.com/yahoo_messenger.php
b) right click on file, ex(ymsgr1150_0228_us) and Open with Wine.
c) follow the prompt.
Yahoo messenger is now available under Applications >> Other menu item
14) INSTALL A SCREENSHOT TOOL:
Gnome-screenshot is a small nifty tool that gets the job done.
command: apt-get install gnome-panel-screenshot
15) SOME INSTALLABLES FROM SYNAPTIC PACKAGE MANAGER:
The following, and more, are available from Synaptic.
a) gimp - for image manipulation
b) gtkvncviewer - a VNC client
c) gnome-rdp - a remote desktop client. Gnome-rdp needs xtightvncviewer to be installed for its VNC functionality.
d) ntfs-3g - My USB flash drive always mounts as a read-only file-system. Couldn't save on, copy to or create a directory To resolve this issue, I installed ntfs-3g and rebooted my PC.
e) Blogillo - blogging client. To get this configured for Joomla, refer to this tutorial: Install Blogillo on Lubuntu 12.10 and configure it for Joomla publishing
f) Open Office
g) Evolution email client. You might want to consider moving Evolution's default finstallation folder to a different partition - after installation.
