The following is pretty simple:

1) On the linux Server(Debian 9 Stretch), I installed XRDP and XFCE4 desktop

sudo apt-get install XRDP

sudo apt-get install XFCE4

2) From the windows client(Windows-7), I use the normal windows RDP tool and here is my Linux server login screen

Select the Xvnc session, enter your username and password

xrdp-xmodulo

3) From a Linux client desktop, here are 2-options:

a) install Remmina, and use same session settings as above

command: apt-get install remmina

sample usage: find remmina icon in the applications section

b) install rdesktop, and use with same session settings as above

command: apt-get install rdesktop

sample usage: rdesktop -g 90% <ip-address>

Firewall notice: allow XRDP port on your firewall: sudo ufw allow 3389
